About Our Association
The New Jersey Civil War History Association, Inc. (NJCWHA) is a non-profit living history association (under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code) dedicated to historical preservation, public education, and to the personal enjoyment of the reenacting hobby. It is a family oriented and democratically run organization with a current roster of approximately 60 members which is growing everyday! Throughout the year, the association participates in numerous regional living history and social events including: battle reenactments, living history exhibitions, parades, ceremonies, school and community educational programs, unit social events, historical concerts, and educational field trips. We boast a well drilled and researched military contingent as well as a highly involved civilian membership. For more information on association living history programs visit our Living History Page.
If you are interested in reenacting with the 14th NJ Co. H, or would like more information about our programs and events, please feel free to use the Contact Page. We look forward to hearing from you!
Membership
and Benefits
The association offers the opportunity to participate in a year-round schedule of living history and social events within the framework of a well structured, fun, safety conscious, and liability insured organization. It also offers members new to the reenacting hobby an organized, thoughtful, and friendly approach to getting started. All members receive a copy of the unit guidelines which include information on the 14th New Jersey, purchasing uniforms and equipment, basic drills and infantry tactics, and the unit by-laws. Members receive a monthly newsletter covering unit activities and events, news from around the reenacting community, and items of historical interest. Regular members may vote and hold office within the association. Associate memberships are available for those who wish to support the unit but not reenact. Perhaps the greatest benefits of membership come in the form of camaraderie and fun. Our well evolved membership has at their disposal the ability to recreate almost every nuance of this era accurately. We have an amazing combination of enthusiastic campaigners, veterans, civilians, and scholars harbored by an unprecedented environment which is hard to come by in the hobby. We have and are currently working hard to strive to preserve this atmosphere and we hope you'll join us. At every event, new friendships are made and renewed as we all come together to explore our interest and enjoy this wonderful hobby.

Anyone over the age of 11 with an active interest in the American Civil War and reenacting may apply for membership in the association. Roles portrayed by members must be historically accurate to the years 1861-65. For reenacting purposes, members age 12-16 may portray field musicians (fifers and drummers) and members over age 16 may portray armed military roles. Under safety guidelines established by the U.S.V., no one under the age of 12 will be allowed on the battlefield area at a reenactment.
